Hi, I'm Amber Reid, a fashion design student who is currently in her second year at Massey University, studying a Bachelor of Fashion Design with Honours, and minoring in Business and Communication subjects. I have a passion for fashion, and my works bring together elements of story-telling, sustainability and creativity. I am a bubbly, open minded, creatively led problem-solver who is open to any challenge. My values as a designer is to produce works that are creative, respectful, inspirational, and reflect an identity or message.
Fashion design to me is important, as I like to explore the relationship between the clothes and the wearer. When it comes to all my works, I aim to create pieces that have meaning, whether this be in cultural connection, creativity, sustainability, or connection to the environment around me.
My positionality as a Tangata-Tiriti designer in New Zealand is also something I significantly consider and plays a role in my design lens. I have experience in not only fashion design work, but also conceptual and textile design, meaning I approach my work with a wide scope of understanding.
My goals as a young fashion designer are to learn more from those experienced in the New Zealand fashion industry, and to build my experience and knowledge as an individual designer to build my own 'voice'. From this, after graudating from Massey University, I hope to one day work within the industry and use my voice to facilitate fashion design as a method for social improvement and change.
