Repurposed
2022
2022
Designed and constructed at NCEA Level 2 for Wearable Design Technology class, this piece synthesizes creativity with unconventional materials. The design is made solely from weed matting, zip ties, hot glue, rope, and black spray paint, all from the hardware store Bunnings. All of these elements merge together to form an innovative garment with a fresh take on the function of everyday household equipment.
Design on Display
Repurposed was previously displayed for a 3 month period in 2022, in Island Bay's Bunnings Warehouse, alongside other classmate's works, where members of the public where able to view and evaluate the effectiveness of the design.
Repurposed blends function and fun, to create an innovative and creative design. The design consists of two pieces, a structured tie-back bodice and tiered ruffle skirt. The rope of the bodice is secured with hot glue in a unique pattern, to add elements of texture and form to the design. This suppression in the bodice is juxtaposed by the fullness of the ruffle skirt, made solely from gathered weed matting.
Previously displayed in Bunnings Lyall Bay, Repurposed and its unique use of Bunnings materials, actively encourages innovation when it comes to fashion design. Exploring new mediums, and looking at fashion through a different lens, is what helps continually grow and improve the concept of fashion design altogether.
